A torn or split earlobe typically occurs as a result of excessive weight or trauma to the earlobe tissue.  This can lead to split in the earlobe or sometimes a completely torn earlobe.  Wearing jewelry and earrings becomes difficult and so many patients seek repair.

Luckily, most torn earlobes can be surgically repaired by a delicate surgical procedure on the earlobe.  The torn earlobe repair surgery is performed under local anesthesia in the office by our dermatologists.  Typically, the earlobe can be pierced again but most patients are asked to wait a minimum of 4 to 6 months to allow the earlobe to fully heal prior to re-piercing.
