Skin rashes are common and often occur as red, itchy areas or bumps on the skin.  Some of the common causes of skin rash are infections (viral or bacterial), irritants or allergens, immune system disorders, and medications. Examples include atopic dermatitis (eczema), contact dermatitis such as poison ivy, drug rashes, heat rash, intertrigo, lichen planus, psoriasis, ringworm (tinea corporis), shingles (herpes zoster), and hives.  When one develops a rash, it is important to see a dermatologist who can perform a thorough evaluation to help better diagnosis the cause of the rash and prescribe appropriate treatment.
